There are two types of visas—X1 and X2—based on the length of your study program, with the process explained below.
X1 Visa
For courses of study lasting in excess of 180 days, participants have to apply to obtain a X1 visa. Here’s what you’ll need:
- A valid passport with blank pages, covering your entire stay in China
- Finished Visa Form of Application with a current photo
- One original and one copy of your university admission letter from your Chinese institution
- One original and one copy of the “Visa Application for Study in China” form, known as JW201 or JW202
The JW201 or JW202 form you’ll need depends on the type of scholarship you’re receiving. The Chinese government will determine which form applies to you, and your university should guide you on this process.
X2 Visa
For programs shorter than 180 days, students should apply for an X2 visa. Here’s what’s required:
- A valid passport with blank pages, valid for the duration of your stay
- Completed Visa Application Form with a photo
- One original and one copy of the admission letter from your Chinese university
